Rome -Termini Railway and Bus Station - Stazione Termini - Italy :

Rome Termini Train Station -- The Termini Central Train Station is located in the heart of Rome it is very convenient to the entire city. There is a taxi line outside the train station with cars ready to take you to hotels and tourist sites. Bus service is available to all parts of Rome from Termini. It is also located next to the main city bus terminal.

Railway Station Termini is the main hub for public transport inside the city of Rome. Both current Rome Metro lines (A and B) intersect at Termini, and a major bus station is located at Piazza Cinquecento, the square in front of the station. However, the main tram lines of the city cross at Porta Maggiore, some 500 metres east of the train station.

Termini was renovated in 2000 and is now a city within a city. The station is huge, with 225 square miles of shopping, restaurants, bars and services. There is a little bit of everything in Termini - an information center, banks, travel agencies, a pharmacy, and a health club. There is even a chapel for those who get so lost that there is little to do but pray.

About 800 trains arrive and depart from Rome, Italy's main train station each day. Trains from all over Italy and the rest of Europe come and go from Termini.

The Rome railway station is named after the ancient Baths of Diocletian which are across the street from the main entrance. When the station was built in 1931 and completed in 1950 it was a great success both in capability and design. After the completion of the train station many stations attempted in copying the formula without success.

Termini Railway station is the principal rail station of Rome (the second largest is the Tiburtina station), as well as the cross roads of all public transportation in Rome. The railway platform has been in use since 1864, but the current building which houses it was inaugurated in the Holy Year of 1950. The architecture is characterized by the extremely long, modernist facade in travertine stone, and by the gravity-defying double curve of the roof.
