Oslo - Central Railway Station - Oslo Sentralstasjon - Norway :

Oslo Central Train Station -- Oslo Central Train Station is the main railway station in Oslo and the largest railway station on the entire Norwegian railway system. The station is located at the eastern end of Karl Johan street. It is the terminus of Drammenbanen, Gardermobanen, Gjøvikbanen, Hovedbanen and Østfoldbanen and serves express-, regional- and local train services by four companies. The railway station is the centre for the main domestic (local and Intercity) and international railway connections, as well as the terminus for the Airport train to Gardermoen.

The train station is owned and operated by Jernbaneverket and was opened in 1980.

Oslo Central-Station has 19 tracks, 13 of which are connected to Oslotunnelen (the Oslo Tunnel). The station has two buildings, the original Oslo Ø and the newer main building for Oslo S. Each building houses a large shopping centre. The square in front of the train station is called Jernbanetorget Square.

The adjacent shopping centre, Byporten, can be accessed directly from the main gallery. On the southern side you will find Østbanehallen, the old part of the station that has now been converted into a small shopping arcade.

Currency -- The currency in Norway is the Norwegian Krone, also known as the NOK. Notes are available in denominations of NOK1000, 500, 200, 100 and 50 while coins come in NOK20, 10, 5 and 1, and 50 øre.

Language -- Norwegian is the official language of Norway. The language is very close and mutually intelligible with the two other Scandinavian languages, Danish and Swedish. Sami is a minority language which has official status in some Northern regions.
