Milan - Central Railway Station - Stazione Centrale di Milano or Milano Centrale - Italy :

Milan Central Train Station -- The main train station in Milan Italy is called the Stazione Centrale (Central Station).  The station is located near the Piazza Duca d’Aosta in central Milan.  There is also a metro station at the central train station of Milan Italy.

Considered one of the most beautiful and main Italian train stations and in Europe, the Milan Central Train station was originally built in 1864. The Railway Station is located in the city centre of Milan and is a short walk to major attractions such as the Duomo Cathedral. In addition, the station is a great destination for high end designer shopping. The vast neo-Babylonian facade dates from the 1930s, dwarfing the ticket offices below from where escalators rise to the platforms and shops. Facilities include a tourist information office, post office, bank and self-service restaurant.

Most international and long distance trains pull in at the Stazione Centrale on underground lines 2 and 3. These lines (MM) will led you downtown in ten minutes.

The Train Station has high-speed links to other major cities in Italy including Bologna, Venice, Genoa, Turin, Florence and Rome.

The direct Rome-Milan train service between Italy's most important business centres is fast and reliable. Services include the InterCity, with services to destinations such as Rome, and the luxurious Treno Eurostar, which also links Milan to Rome via Bologna and Florence - each service requires supplements. For ports, there are regular trains to Venice and Genoa. The EuroCity train services link Milan to more than 40 other European destinations.

Time zone -- GMT + 1 (GMT + 2 from last Sunday in March to last Sunday in October)

Currency -- Euro

Language -- Italian, of course, is the language of the land, but English is generally understood at most attractions such as museums and at most hotels and restaurants that cater to visitors. Even if not all the staff at a restaurant, for example, speaks English, almost always, one person does and can be summoned.

Electricity -- The electricity in Italy varies considerably. It's usually alternating current (AC), varying from 42 to 50 cycles. The voltage can be anywhere from 115 to 220. It's recommended that any visitor carrying electrical appliances obtain a transformer. Check the exact local current at the hotel where you're staying. Plugs have prongs that are round, not flat; therefore, an adapter plug is also needed.

Air Connections -- The city has a large international airport known as Malpensa International Airport (MXP), located near the industrial towns of Busto Arsizio and Gallarate and connected to the downtown with the "Malpensa Express" railway service (from Cadorna Station and central station ). Malpensa was designed by the famous Ettore Sottsass. Milan also has the Linate Airport (LIN) within the city limits (for European and domestic traffic), connected with bus line 73 (from S. Babila). A third airport is Orio al Serio (BGY), close to the city of Bergamo. Vergiate, Venegono, Bresso, Voghera and Montichiari are additional airports in the region.
