Zürich Main Train Station -- The busy Zurich Hauptbahnhof, the main train station, dates from 1871 and is located on Bahnhofplatz. In addition to a tourist information office, it offers a range of shops and very good restaurants, as well as left luggage, banking, postal and telecommunication facilities, the station is part of the rail city network and has over 200 hundred underground shops.

The Zurich main rail station is a major hub of the regional train service and one of the busiest train stations in the world, more than 30 high-speed Intercity trains connect Switzerland to other European countries.

Zurich is within easy reach by train from all major european cities. Direct connections are available from all larger cities in Germany, France, Italy and Austria, as well as from Amsterdam, Barcelona, Vienna, Prague, Budapest and Zagreb.

There are day and overnight trains to and from Rome (journey time - 9 hours 45 minutes) and Venice (journey time - 8 hours), Vienna (journey time - 9 hours) and Budapest (journey time - 12 hours 50 minutes). High-speed trains Cisalpino connect Zurich with Milan (journey time - 3 hours 40 minutes) and various other northern Italian cities.
