Created in 1670

The Avenue Champs Élysées has a length of 1910m and a width of 70m, and is created in 1670. The boulevard is surrounded by cinemas, theaters, cafés, bars, cabarets and luxury shops on the west side of the street. Near the Place de la Concorde, the street is bordered by the Jardins des Champs-Elysées, which are beautiful gardens with fountains and some grand buildings including the Grand and Petit Palais, and the Elysée. Many famous French and international brands have a store on the avenue.

The Champs-Elysees promenade is where Parisians celebrate New Year's Eve (NYE) and where the military parades are held on the 14th of July (French National Day or Bastille Day). Also the Liberation at the end of the second World War or the victory in the World Cup football were also celebrated on this wide avenue. The street is also famous as the finishing stage of the Tour de France.

Landmarks and Sights in Avenue des Champs Elysees

Arc de Triomphe -- iconic arch located at the center of Place Charles de Gaulle (Place de l'Étoile). The Triumphal Arch was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806. From the viewing platform on top of the Arch you have great views of La Defense, the Champs-Elysees promenade and the Sacre-Coeur.

Obelisk of Luxor -- situated on Place de la Condorde in the east of the avenue. The Obélisque de Louxor is an Egyptian obelisk with a height of 23 meters or 75ft.

Théâtre Marigny -- theatre at the junction of the Champs-Elysees and the Avenue Marigny.

Grand Palais des Champs-Elysées -- Grand Palace or Grand Palais hosts a science museum, the Palais de la Découverte, and an exhibition complex. The major international art fair known as the FIAC is held at this venue.
