Oporto -- Porto is Portugal's second-largest city. Vinho do Porto (Port wine) is housed and bottled in this city.

The ancient Ribeira riverside district, the historic centre with a warren of narrow, twisting streets and shadowy arches, is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city centre is full of beautiful buildings and a particularly dominant feature is the use of coloured tiles, azulejos, on the facades.

You can visit historical churches or a cathedral (Igreja). One of the most popular is Igreja de Sao Francisco, a Gothic church beautifully gilded with gold leaf. Underneath the church are a museum and catacombs, which are worth exploring. Porto Cathedral is one of the city’s finest landmarks, based in the old district. The Cathedral is 800 years old and was renovated during the 18th century, the two influences resulting in an incredible piece of architecture.

Porto has a wide sandy beach. Be careful when swimming, the sea can get very polluted and there are lots of rocks.
