Bordeaux -- Bordeaux is famous for its wines. The city is situated near France's Atlantic coast and is the heart of the famous Bordeaux wine region and is capital of the Gironde department. It has some of France's best 18th-century architecture and a major fine-arts museum. Bordeaux is a major cultural center and a transportation hub between southern France and Spain.

Wine exporters welcome guests to sample wines and learn about the industry, it's also a university town full of young spirit, hip bars, and delicious restaurants.

The prettiest, most interesting, and most historic neighborhood in Old Bordeaux is the "golden triangle," defined by cours Clemenceau, cours de l'Intendance, and les allées de Tourny. Vieux Bordeaux (old town) centres on the Quartier St-Pierre, which is surrounded by narrow streets, and lined with old churches and grand mansions.

Visit some of the nearby wineries, many on the grounds of beautiful chateaus.The local tourist office publishes lists giving details of all the wineries and chateaus in the area. The area surrounding Bordeaux produces over 70 million gallons of wine each year.
