Central Warsaw - City Center - Poland :

Warsaw City Centre -- The tourist epicentre of the city is the ‘Royal Route', which runs north-south from the New and Old Towns, past the fashionable shops of Nowy Świat, the palaces that survived the war and the royal gardens of Łazienki Park, before reaching Wilanów Palace to the south of the city centre. The ensuing Soviet regime left a mixed legacy, with a painstakingly reconstructed Old Town, New Town and Royal Way, and a sprawling mish-mash of modern blocks.

In Downtown Warsaw you can find historical monuments and its landmarks are of either postwar construction or postwar reconstruction, the Old Town and the Royal Castle in the first place. As the capital city, Warsaw boasts an array of National culture institutions–The National Opera, The National Theater, The National Library, etc.

The Warsaw Historical Museum occupies its northern side displaying collections from the city’s earlier history and documents of the WWII tragedy.

The Royal castle dates back to the thirteenth century and was once the official residence of Poland's monarch. The castel was home to the personal offices of the King, as well as the Royal Court of Poland until the Partitions of Poland, which ended the sovereign Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth in the eighteenth century. During World War II, the Royal Castle was partially destroyed by German bombers in the Invasion of Poland and then subsequently suffered further damage as a result of German bombardment and heavy artillery fire during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. In September 1944, on Hitler's orders the Royal Castle remnants from the bombing were blown up.

Much of Warsaw's historic centre was painstakingly recreated in the years after World War II, in a move by the communist authorities, which surprised the citizens of Warsaw as it much as it did the West. The strikingly successful rebuilding of Warsaw's Old Town was finally rewarded in 1980, when the entire complex earned its place on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Today The nightlife scene in Warsaw is one of the best in Eastern Europe, with a multitude of bars and clubs scattered across Warsaw, and the dining options have improved no end, with international cuisine regularly featured alongside Polish standards.

Time zone -- Poland is in the Central European Time zone (CET), 1 hour ahead of GMT and 6 hours ahead of the eastern United States.

Language -- The official language of Poland is Polish. English, German and Russian are also commonly spoken, especially in larger cities.
