Seville City Centre -- In Seville Spain, you have to visit the old historical city, with the Cathedral and the Giralda tower at its heart. (You can climb the steps inside the tower for a magnificent view of the City).
Very close by are the royal Mudéjar palace known as the Alcazar with marvellous gardens and the Santa Cruz quarter, with cramped streets, flowered balconies, richly decorated facades, hidden patios... Other sights not to be missed are, in the old city, the Casa de Pilatos, a large sixteenth-century mansion where Mudejar, Gothic and Renaissance styles blend harmoniously amidst exuberant patios and gardens and, crossing the Triana bridge over the large Guadalquívir River, the lively popular quarter of Triana with charming narrow streets around the church of Santa Ana and traditional ceramic factories.
On the other side of the Plaza del Triunfo, the Archives of the Indies still house today the complete collection of all documents relative to the discovery and conquest of the New World. A few hundred metres away by the riverside, the Torre del Oro (Golden Tower), nearby there is also a (less known) Torre del Plata (Silver Tower), is another witness of Arab Sevilla, while nearby the Hospital de la Caridad (Charity Hospital), which is still an old gentlemen's home, has a splendid patio and a church with a magnificent collection of pictures by Valdes Leal and Murillo.
Do not leave this part of the city without a visit to the famous Plaza de Toros, the bullring, certainly one of the most beautiful in Spain.
Strolling around the town of Seville, with its narrow streets and squares, its gorgeous gardens, and just taking part in the hustle and bustle will also very much be a part of the pleasure you take out of your Seville holiday vacation. The historical city centre of political, religious and economic power has traditionally been concentrated in a very reduced area through the passing of centuries and civilizations. This makes visiting the must-sees particularly easy.
The UNESCO Comittee named the Cathedral, the Alcazar and the Archivo de Indias as world heritages in Seville because of their testimony to the civilization of Christian Andalusia.
All three of them are also directly connected with the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus. His tomb lies in the Cathedral, the Archivio the Indias houses an important collection of documents from this period in time.
