Seville City Centre in Spain
Downtown Seville is an area full of narrow streets and squares, gorgeous parks and gardens, plenty of museums and a city with a wide variety of entertainment. The main historical sights and landmarks of Seville are concentrated in a very reduced area, whiwh makes visiting the must-sees attractions particularly easy.
A must in the city of Seville is a visit to the old historical city, with the the Cathedral, the Alcazar and the Archivo de Indias located in the heart of town. These three famous attractions are declared as UNESCO world heritages sites in Seville because of their testimony to the civilization of Christian Andalusia. They are also directly connected with the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus. His tomb lies in the Cathedral. The Archivio the Indias houses an important collection of documents from this period in time.
Very close by are the royal Mudéjar palace known as the Alcazar with marvellous gardens and the Santa Cruz quarter, with cramped streets, flowered balconies, richly decorated facades, hidden patios... Other sights not to be missed while you are in the old city are the Casa de Pilatos, a large sixteenth-century mansion where Mudejar, Gothic and Renaissance styles blend harmoniously amidst exuberant patios and gardens.
If you cross the Triana bridge over the large Guadalquívir River, you reach the lively popular quarter of Triana. The Triana quarter is an area full of charming narrow streets located around the church of Santa Ana and traditional ceramic factories.
By the riverside of Seville city centre lies the Torre del Oro (Golden Tower), nearby there is also a (less known) Torre del Plata (Silver Tower), is another witness of Arab Sevilla, while nearby the Hospital de la Caridad (Charity Hospital), which is still an old gentlemen's home, has a splendid patio and a church with a magnificent collection of pictures by Valdes Leal and Murillo. The famous Plaza de Toros, the bullring of Sevilla, can be found nearby. It's certainly one of the most beautiful in Spain.
