Porto - Boavista Business and Financial Area District - Portugal :

Porto Boavista -- Boavista is often described as the business and financial district of Porto, but it’s actually more a mix of middle-class residential area with offices, and some restaurants and bars. Don’t expect a lively district, bustling with crackberry addicts.

Boavista is one of Porto’s best shopping districts, located less than five miles from Porto city centre, where you’ll find many upmarket boutiques and high street shops. Shops in Porto normally stay open till 7pm, but have a siesta from about 1-3pm.

Time zone -- GMT (GMT + 1 from last Sunday in March to last Sunday in October)

Currency -- Portugal uses the euro. Euro banknotes are issued in the following values: €500, €200, €100, €50, €20, €10 €5, while the Euro is divided into 100 cents, with €2, €1, 50c, 20c, 10c, 5c, 2c and 1c coins all available.

Language -- You will find that many people in Lisbon speak English, but be prepared to use your phrase book should you wander outside the city limits. Portuguese is the official language of Portugal. French is Portugal’s third language, while Spanish is also widely understood.

Electricity -- 220V, 50Hz

Air Connections -- Porto is served by Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (IATA: OPO) which is located some 15km to the north-west of the city centre. The airport is a state-of-the-art facility, having undergone a massive program of refurbishment due to the Euro 2004 football championships being partly hosted in the city. Direct flights to a growing number of major cities in Europe and the Americas are available; from these, of special interest are low cost connections to London, Frankfurt, Liverpool, Dublin and Paris. It is currently the 3rd best airport in Europe and the 3rd best in the world in the category of under five million passengers.
