Vieux Nice Old Town City Centre -- Vieux Nice/Old Town one of the most picturesque and widely visited parts of the city. The old town of Vieux Nice, with its flagstone narrow streets and the harbour are separated from the new part by the Paillon River.
The "vieille ville" (Vieux Nice) is the most beyond part of Nice France. With narrow streets curving in irregular fashion between old buildings with red-tile roofs, this could be almost any medieval village of the region. The streets are packed with shops and shoppers. Small restaurants, food, meat, produce, pasta, clothes, gifts, anything and everything. You can buy wine by the bottle or the barrel (bring your own container) and an amazing variety of fresh-made ravioli and other pasta.
The Cours Saleya has a daily flower market and a food market in the mornings. There are scores of stands, from large, professionally displayed wares to folding tables set up by family farmers with their produce and live fowl directly from the farm. The length of the Cours Saleya is sided by the low buildings separating the "Cours" from the seaside. Once housing the fishermen's catch, they have given way largely to seafood restaurants. The other side of the Cours Saleya is lined by terrace cafés, lovely old buildings and the grand Prefecture.
The old town lies behind the seafront. It is possible to take a mini-train and tour the area passing the flower market and Castle Hill Gardens on the way. There are some fine churches in the city including the baroque Chapelle de la Misericorde and The Cathedrale de Ste-Reparate in Rossetti Square. There is a wide choice of museums and galleries for those who like a little culture with their sand and sea. At the Place Garibaldi you can walk around the fountain and visit one of the many cafés in the area.
Cimiez is the oldest part of Nice and worth a visit. Here are the Arènes de Cimiez, amphitheatre and spa, and the Museum of Archaeology as well as the gardens which have become the venue for the world-famous Nice Jazz Festival every summer. Cimiez is also the home of the Matisse and Chagall Museums.

Language -- English is increasingly understood in France, especially among young people who have studied it in school. People are more likely to understand English in such centers as Paris and the Riviera than in the more remote provinces. Service personnel in hotels tend to speak English, at least at the front desk. A staff member at most restaurants will speak a bit of English. But many people you encounter in France do not speak English, and you may want to carry a Berlitz handbook.
Electricity -- Electricity in France runs on 220-volt, 50-cycle AC current.
Air Connections -- The Côte d'Azur International Airport or Nice Côte d'Azur Airport (French: Aéroport Nice Côte d'Azur) (IATA: NCE, ICAO: LFMN) is an airport in Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes department of France. It is the third most important airport in France after Charles de Gaulle International Airport and Orly Airport, both in Paris. It is on the Promenade des Anglais, near l'Arénas and has two terminals. Due to its proximity to the Principality of Monaco, it also serves as that city-state's airport, with helicopter service linking the city and airport.
