Boulevard de la Croisette Cannes -- The renowned Boulevard de la Croisette runs for two kilometers along Cannes’ Mediterranean shoreline and beach in Southern France and is the center of the city’s tourist activity. Known for its luxury hotels and high class shops, the Croisette is also home to Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, site of the Cannes Film Festival.
Providing shady respite just in front of the Palais des Festivals are a stately row of tropical palms whose natural beauty the City of Cannes wished to emphasize. Lighting designers M. Alain Guilhot, Thierry Guilhot (Architecture Lumière-groupe Citelum) and M. Gilles Genetelli were tasked with the job and turned to dynamic lighting to bring out the area at night. The installation also allows the space to celebrate the excitement of the Cannes Film Festival each May.
La Croisette gets its name from a small cross that used to stand east of the bay. A favourite spot for locals and visitors alike, this wonderful promenade, in the heart of town, hugs the seashore and its beaches for several kilometres. To one side there's the Mediterranean, the Lerins islands off the coast, and the Esterel mountain range. On the other, there are palm trees, the beach, elegant belle epoque hotels and fashionable boutiques. It is an ideal place to people-watch, especially during the Film Festival.

A staff member at most restaurants will speak a bit of English. But many people you encounter in France do not speak English, and you may want to carry a Berlitz handbook.
