Budapest Castle Hill -- The Castle District in Buda is the ancient kernel of the capital's right-bank settlement. Everything that surrounds it was once only suburbs. From whatever direction you reach the Castle District, you cross the ramparts which completely encircle Castle Hill. The whole area within the ramparts is protected as an ancient monument: the lines of the streets and the foundations and architectural remains of the buildings retain the atmosphere and memories of the medieval and eighteenth and nineteenth-century capital.
Rising 48 meters above the Danube, the Castle Hill or Várhegy nevertheless dominates the city. This hill is the place where Budapest was founded. It is a small, densely built rock, with the Buda Castle as the most prominent building.
Budapest’s Castle District abandons in great historic attractions, interesting museums, charming, crooked streets following the shape of the hill, little cafés and restaurants. Besides the monuments you get a breathtaking panorama from of the Danube with the Chain Bridge and the opposite Pest side. Everything at one place! It’s ideal to spend a romantic morning here in spring or in a sunny autumn day, before the tourists overrun the hill.
