Riga International Airport :

Riga Airport -- Riga International Airport is one of the fastest growing in the world. Built in 1973 and renovated in 2001, the airport ('lidosta' in Latvian) has seen a steady increase in passengers in recent years. Riga International Airport is not only the largest airport in Latvia but also in the Baltic region.

In 2006, the new north terminal extension was opened. The airport has three terminals: A & C for non-Schengen, and B for Schengen departures. Arrivals 1, in terminal A, handles the Schengen arrivals, while Arrivals 2, in terminal C, handles the non-Schengen arrivals.

The Riga Airport has undergone major changes and upgrades over the last 5 years. The new terminal is beautiful, clean and nice. Thanks to the refurbishment of 2001 (designed to coincide with the city's 800th birthday), Riga International Aiport is a sleek, modern and functional affair. All the facilities you need are there, such as bureaux de change, ATMs and left luggage, whilst getting through security, passport control and baggage is usually much easier than at larger airports.

Major airlines fly to RIX, but the best connections to Europe and Eastern Europe are provided by airBaltic. It provides good connections between Western Europe and the former Soviet Union. The Riga International Airport in Latvia serves well-known airlines such as Aeroflot, British Airways, CSA, Finnair, Lufthansa, SAS and the national airline Air Baltic.

Public Transport -- Getting into the city is simple too. Cover the 13km in a cab for less than 10 lats (about 15 Euros), or hop on the number 22 city bus to Central Station for 0.2 lat, or the airport express 22a to Reval Hotel for 0.25 lat. Both are in the city centre. You shouldn't expect to wait more than 15-20 mins for one and the journey time is around 30 minutes.

#Bus : Bus No.22, which leaves from Abrenes Street, has direct services between the airport and the city centre. You will get out straight at the terminal on the 2nd level. To get on the bus at the airport look for bus stop located opposite the terminal behind the car park. Frequency 10 - 30 minutes, journey time about 30 minutes. Fare 0.40 LVL, luggage 0.80 LVL. Bus No.22A - express service - connects the airport with the centre of Riga (bus stop "Katedrāle", Brīvības Blvd.), fare 0.40 LVL, luggage 0.80 LVL.
